What is your perfect Valentine's Day fantasy? Is it romantic? adventurous? shared with friends? or a cozy two-some? Do you envision the traditional card, box of chocolates and roses? Or would you rather plan a spontaneous, fun get-away…or watch classic movies in front of a warm fire?

I composed my first 'Roses are red, violets are blue” note to my second grade sweat heart when I was 8 years old. Until my mid- thirties, Valentine's Day represented the height of the perfect romantic fantasy that I saw in movies or created in my very active imagination. In other words, I was a hopeless and helpless romantic.

It came as quite a shock, after my divorce at age 35, that I had no idea how to be a partner in a loving relationship and feel whole, or 'fall in love' and stay true to me, or seek love without losing myself. And when one of my respected teachers from those years suggested that loving was a choice, not a feeling - I was astounded! This did not thrill the 'happily ever after' dreams of my adolescence.

But today, older, grayer, married again and still a romantic I know that the perfect sweet heart gift that I want to receive on valentine's day or any other day of the year comes wrapped in truth of my loving heart to me - from me.

* The second item is a delicious caramel-filled chocolate 'goodie' of self-acceptance. As I unwrap this delectable treat and pop it in my mouth I taste the richness of accepting all parts of me. For when I accept I no longer judge and this grace is also extended to others. I savor the yummin

* Next is one perfect pink rose representing the sweetness of self-forgiveness. Giving myself the gift of releasing judgment, shame and blame for past regrets, mistakes, what ifs, if onlys expands my heart. Self-forgiveness releases the fragrance of my divinity and all are blessed.

* And finally, in my box of personal valentines, is a simple key…the key to my heart. By demonstrating loyalty to my Soul I maintain the integrity of my loving. And I experience the wisdom of the words…To live well is to love well.
