Let's face it rebuilding New Orleans is not going to be cheap. And if we do not do it right we will get a repeat. Should we simply not rebuild? How can we justify that? Then does that mean we should not rebuild mid western cities devastated by Tornadoes too?

For Tornadic Storms in the Mid West there are many simple things that can be done to minimize destruction but usually are not. And allowing trailer homes or Tornado Magnets as permanent domiciles is silly as well. That makes no sense either. In considering all your points previously, I can say this, there is a right way and wrong way to build a city and it does not take a kid growing up with SimCity and later a CAD CAM AI Architect user to get it. I suppose this is why we have building codes? If we look at Hurricane Beta, which was barely a Cat I at landfall in Mexico, it killed the same number in mudslides in Mexico and Guatemala, some 3,000; as Katrina and Rita did here.

Your argument is notable, however too regurgitated and flip a comment to over weigh the reality that rebuilding New Orleans is the best way to go. Indeed if you do not mind, I will reserve my right to tell you; "I told you so after we do.” We need to be smart about rebuilding New Orleans as it sits under sea level, we could make a new city much cheaper up the road on higher ground?
