Living For The First Time

We've all heard people say, "Live life as if it were your last day on earth.” Although I have found myself approaching life like that on many occasions to help me truly enjoy and appreciate all that life has to offer, I've recently considered a different way of living life that gave me the opportunity to approach each day in a whole new way. What if we did the following as often as possible:

Live life as though it were your first day on earth!

Just think about that for a moment. Let it sink in as deeply as possible and then consider how differently you would view life. Living life as though it were your first day on earth frees you in a way you might not have imagined before.

Remember how easily excited and interested you were in the simplest things during your much younger years? How anything felt possible? Think back on the earliest time of your life when you can recall an event you experienced for the first time that just brought a feeling of wonderment and amazement to your soul. It might take some effort but it's so worth it, I promise.

I was fortunate enough, because of a recent experience, to not have to go all the way back into my childhood memories to recall that feeling of wonderment. A couple of weeks ago I was with my friend's 3-year old daughter, and as we were preparing to go into the house she came across a spider making its web.

She was so enthralled with this event, which she had never seen before, that we ended up just sitting, watching and talking about this process for an hour! She did not want to leave and the more I allowed myself to witness the spider through her eyes and what it was doing, the more I realized, I too, was looking at something for the first time. It was no longer just an everyday

occurrence in my mind. It was fascinating and I cherished every moment of that hour. It wasn't until she became hungry that we went inside and I actually found myself feeling a bit disappointed that she was ready to leave!

That moment truly opened my heart up in a way that is hard to put into words. Time seemed to stand still and I was able to be and feel present in a way I hadn't felt in a long time! As I practiced viewing life for the first time again and again over the passing weeks, I continued to experience much more ease and joy each and every day.

I encourage you to do yourself a favor for at least the next week, and be willing to experience, as often as possible, that which you do and observe on a daily basis, as though you were living it for the first time. It may feel a bit odd and perhaps difficult at first, but when you decide to get out of your head and into your heart, relaxing into the moment, you'll be pleasantly surprised how delightful your days can be and how easily the days flow and the joy you will attract to you on a daily basis.
