How To Go From Rocky Resolutions To Rock Solid Reality

It seems to me that New Year's Resolutions are a lot about just hoping it happens. Everyone talks about them from say Dec 21st-ish until about January 10th -ish and then everyone goes back to doing what they've been doing. Sound familiar? Be honest. The reason change doesn't happen is we don't have a strategy for creating the change. This is a set-up for sabotage in my opinion.

For a long time I wrote out my resolutions every year, but it never really worked for me.. I wasn't really jazzed by my resolutions. Honestly, I usually felt like a big, fat, failure - "Oh, these things again - exactly what I couldn't get done last year.” I never really looked at them; they sorda bothered me probably because they seemed like "obligations” rather than "exciting desires.”

Then I was introduced to the idea of creating a 1 year vision instead of making resolutions. This visioning wasn't just about "shoulds”, but about what I really WANTED. (I think I was a little afraid to make that claim in the past). It was a "holistic” way of looking at what I wanted - my career, family, friends, health, personal time and money desires. I started to get it - all of it works together. Each area isn't independent; if one area suffers the whole picture (which I realized was my life) was being affected in some way.

The best thing about ENVISIONING the year was that to see it, I had to FEEL it. Whoa. I noticed that I wasn't really giving myself much credit for what I could actually get done in a year. I was locked into a "yearly routine” that I had been living out for a long time. But having to create a vision of what the year would look like allowed me to start to GO BIG. Seasonal sections dropped and my energy un- blocked. My creative side started going crazy and I rea

lly took the time to SEE.

The 1 year vision was a way for me to tap into what I REALLY wanted. My heart beats a little faster after I read it and I feel a tingle in my stomach. Now THAT is energy that my yearly list of resolutions can't create. (By the way, my vision stays with me more on a daily basis because of this feeling, rather than just sitting in my sock drawer.)

Another trick I use is I write it in the present tense... same day, one year later. For this year my 1 year vision read 2007 and as I read it back to myself I was reading about all the things I'd ALREADY accomplished in my career, my new marriage, my family, my friends, my money over the past year (which of course haven't actually happened yet).

Try it and really FEEL what it is like when you read it back to yourself. It is a great step to beginning to align your heart, your head and your body - it is a pull into action. It is also about building a bridge of trust; that you do know what you want and how to go about getting it.
