So getting back to the question; a cell phone is basically a telephone that connects to a telephone network wirelessly using radio transmission technology. As Wikipedia points out, the cell phone communicates via a network of base stations which are in turn linked to the conventional telephone network.

You will want to consider weight, size, color, battery life, dual-mode capability (analog and digital), camera capability, video capability, color of display, walkie talkie capability, etc. There are also several different types of cell phones. There are flip phones, single-piece phones, PDA phones, Blackberry phones, and others. You have plenty of features to choose from, so your cell phone selection may take a little time.

Cell phones are manufactured by many companies around the world. You can find cell phones made by Nokia, Sanyo, Samsung, LG, palmOne, and BlackBerry. All of these manufacturers make a nice cell phone, so it really comes down to which features you are looking for that determines which cell phone you purchase.

Ringtones are currently a feature of cell phones that very popular. People customize the ring on their cell phone with a song, tune, melody, etc. Ringtones can be free or they may cost up to $5 each.
