The manufacturing sector in the United States is having a rough time of it and no other sector is trouble today quite as serious and the US Automakers. The old factories are not designed to be upgraded and re-tooled while the new factories are so high-tech they are robotic and can slam cars out in about 15 or less hours and change runs and make another whole different model without even going down for more than one week. As robotic factories of the future out produce the demands of the car buying public, there are issues, which must be realized in the form of reduced employment figures.

Both General Motors and Ford Motor Company have announced combined lay offs of 60,000 people and those are generally very good jobs with exceptional benefits, which are not easily replaced and potentially devastating to the to local and regional economies where those jobs, factories, suppliers and small businesses are. Currently

much of our country has approximately 17% of our jobs employed through manufacturing and as that number decreases those jobs will need to be transferred to other sectors. But in doing so it is equally important that we find suitable jobs, which are not under employing these displaced workers into jobs which are low-paying and have little or no benefits. Think on this.
