Should Artists With Low Self Esteem Bid Their Work?

For artists who are experiencing low self-esteem about themselves or their work while attempting to bid jobs relating to their work, may be short-changing themselves. Low self-esteem can be a huge and gigantic problem them, because they may lack objectivity about their own artwork and selling themselves short. Just as in the wild animal kingdom, animals prey on the weak; I believe the same holds true for us as humans. I don't see much of a difference in our behavior at times. What is to stop someone from taking advantage of this type of situation?

If an artist is humble about their work or struggling with depression and can hardly get out of their bed and leave their house each morning, he or she should consider not bidding out their services to the public. Dealing with the public can be like dealing with wild alligators at times! They can bite, snap, and leave emotional battle scars. A few years ago, one of my art professors once told the class how he gave up art for a decade and returned to construction work due to the thoughtless words of an interviewer (who was looking at his portfolio). One time, I had a groom (a

prison guard) physically corner me, and I had my back against the wall and talking to my forehead! He did this, because he was upset that I would not let him set the charge for my wedding photography services.

Due to this problem, I believe if an artist is struggling emotionally, they should consider working for other professionals who have understanding and know their professional boundaries.

Personally, I am on a mission to believe in myself enough to not allow myself to work for abusive people which includes not letting others devalue my efforts and expenses. I plan to speak up for myself and clearly state the costs in such a way that they will turn away from me (as opposed to me surrendering to their selfish whims).
